Lacey’s family has been vacationing in Rehoboth Beach, Delaware since the 1950s. It’s now our tradition, where we spend time every summer and love to rent bikes for early morning rides before spending the rest of the day at the beach. A few years ago, locals recommended we bike a 20-mile loop combining two trails we’d never tried. “Just be warned,” they cautioned, “the trails aren’t well marked.”

Armed with confidence and a map we didn’t think we needed (hey, we know this area!) we set off. But we soon found ourselves lost. Poor signage led us down the wrong connecting trail, and we were hot, thirsty, and increasingly frustrated with the situation and each other. For several days, we kept going back, determined to figure it out. Each time we had a good ride, but we never found ourselves on the 20-mile loop. Instead, we were riding variations of the same horseshoe! We were working harder, not smarter.

Then one morning, Lacey woke up and said, “I figured it out. I mapped it in my head overnight.” That day, following her route, we finally completed the full loop and ended at our favorite coffee shop. Success! We think about that moment often. How sometimes we can’t solve a problem by just trying harder or doing more of the same. We need to step back, let our minds work differently, and see patterns that aren’t visible when we are in the thick of it.

It’s exactly what happens with the leaders and teams we support. They’re capable people who know their business, but sometimes they feel stuck in their own version of the horseshoe—working hard, making some progress, but not reaching where they actually want to go.

That’s where assessments, coaching, and culture work make the difference. Through validated assessments, we help leaders see blind spots and patterns they can’t see on their own, like Lacey mapping out that trail in her head. Through targeted coaching, we guide individuals and teams to step back, gain fresh perspective, and develop the skills to navigate more effectively. And through culture audits, we surface what’s really happening beneath the surface so leaders can address the root issues, not just the symptoms.

That breakthrough moment—when everything clicks and the way forward becomes clear—that’s what Noble Hill helps create through data-driven insights and targeted development.
